First Nations Partnerships to Play a Role in Future Renewables in AL & SASK

In this Q&A interview, Lee Ahenakew, Interim CEO, First Nations Power Authority (FNPA) provides an update on developments for incentivizing First Nations involvement in utility-scale renewables in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

“In Alberta, the Indigenous Electricity Technical Working Group has been set up, and they’re looking at methods to allow communities to participate in future rounds of the REP process,” he reports. “In Saskatchewan, we are still in the process of working with SaskPower, but we expect that, in the next six months, we’ll have those project development strategies and processes in place and we’ll be looking to implement them.”
